Inquiry Into The Death Of Mark Woodward
EDM number 204 in 1990-91, proposed by Ann Winterton on 10/12/1990.
That this House notes with approval the posthumous award for bravery by the Royal Humane Society to 13-year old Mark Woodward who drowned tragically in the sea at Ilfracombe on 16th August 1989 after saving the life of his cousin, Ben; further notes the considerable local and national concern about the response of the Coastguard Service to this incident; believes that the work of the service and the level of provision available should be reviewed in the light of this case; and urges the Secretary of State fully to inquire into the matters of detail and of principle raised by Mark's death and to make fully public his findings and the information upon which he reached them.
