Pillars Of Democracy
EDM number 190 in 1990-91, proposed by Bob Cryer on 06/12/1990.
That this House reaffirms that control over taxation and expenditure are basic pillars of democratic accountability by Parliament; rejects any proposals to strengthen an obscure, remote and unaccountable body of the EEC, namely the Council of Economic and Finance Ministers (ECOFIN) at the expense of Parliament; and recognises that economic and monetary union, together with a single currency, would reduce the United Kingdom to an assisted area dependent largely on begging bowl supplications to a Common Market dominated by a central bank and an arrogant clique of appointed Commissioners.
This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
