Tobacco Taxation

EDM number 184 in 1990-91, proposed by Roy Beggs on 06/12/1990.

That this House, recognising the increased share of the United Kingdom cigarette market captured by cheaper imported cigarettes after each excessive increase in tobacco taxation and resulting factory closures, calls upon Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer to protect jobs in the remaining United Kingdom tobacco industry by taking such action in his Budget proposals as will help to prevent further loss of market share by United Kingdom manufacturers and limit opportunity for any substantial increase in cheap imported cigarettes.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
