Parliamentary Hours;amdt. Line 1:
EDM number 161A5 in 1990-91, proposed by Ann Winterton on 12/12/1990.
leave out from 'notes' to end and add 'that the current pattern of sittings of the House has evolved progressively over the centuries to meet the many different demands upon the time of Right honourable and honourable Members; that the commencement of business at 2.30 pm allows Members to deal in the mornings with constituency correspondence, to participate in the valuable work of Select and Standing Committees, and to escort visitors to the Palace along the line of route; further welcomes the access to parliamentary proceedings provided by those sessions of debate in the Chamber and in Committee which take place in the evening; believes that any major change in the current arrangements would deny public access to the work of the House and be inconvenient for Members; and concludes that what is needed is reduction in the volume of legislation brought before the House.'.
This is a ammendment to 161.
