Learning Centre For Children With Cerebral Palsy
EDM number 139 in 1990-91, proposed by Mildred Gordon on 29/11/1990.
That this House notes the lobby by parents, children, staff and friends of the Hornsey Centre for Children Learning on 31st October, that the Hornsey Centre is the only place in London providing a complete conductive education programme for children with cerebral palsy, based on the model of the renowned Peto Institute in Hungary, and that the centre only receives a local authority contribution of between one sixth and one third of the cost of each place in respect of just half the children attending the centre and that the rest of the centre's running costs have so far been met by fund-raising; further notes that the Government has pledged ú5 million to the Peto Institute in Hungary; and believes that the Government should add to its support for conductive education abroad with an immediate cash injection of ú250,000 into the Hornsey Centre to ensure that it stays open beyond Christmas, and should explore methods of funding the education of children at the Hornsey Centre in the future which will ensure that the option to receive conductive education in London remains open.
