Gibraltar

EDM number 131 in 1990-91, proposed by Michael Colvin on 28/11/1990.

That this House rejects the statement by the Spanish Prime Minister at the Conference for Security and Co-operation in Europe renewing Spain's claim to Gibraltar; welcomes the statement by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office recalling the rights of the Gibraltarian people to determine their own future as enshrined in the 1969 Constitution; regrets the fact that Spain has made this claim on a British Crown colony at a time when both countries remain committed to a process of bilateral discussions under the Brussels process; and calls on Her Majesty's Government not to change the status of Gibraltar unless it is the freely expressed wish of the Gibraltarian people.
