Reducing Entitlement To Family Credit And Income

EDM number 1259 in 1990-91, proposed by Graham Allen on 16/10/1991.

That this House notes that at a time when the richest one per cent. of the population has never been richer, the Government is seeking to penalise some of those on the lowest incomes by redefining full-time work for family credit and income support purposes from 24 hours to 16 hours per week; believes this will reduce the incentive for large numbers of lone parents to take up employment, will remove from thousands of people access to income support passported benefits such as full housing benefit, and 80 per cent, community charge rebate and health benefits and will penalise those home owners who currently receive help with mortgage interest repayments at a time when repossessions are rising; and calls for the Statutory Interest, No. 1520, 1991, to be withdrawn.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
