The Guardian And Manchester Evening News And Piccadilly Radio
EDM number 1202 in 1990-91, proposed by Lawrence Cunliffe on 24/07/1991.
That this House notes with concern that The Guardian and Manchester Evening News plc, which has a monopoly of newspapers in Greater Manchester, owning and operating more than 20 titles, including The Manchester Evening News, is now seeking to use its position as a restricted shareholder in Transworld Communications plc to control the management of that company, which operates Manchester's independent radio station, Piccadilly Radio, a direct competitor to The Manchester Evening News; and believes such action to be against the public interest.
This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
