Conduct Of Mcdonalds
EDM number 1198 in 1990-91, proposed by George Galloway on 24/07/1991.
That this House deplores the reprehensible act of artistic bullying committed by the fast food multinational, McDonalds, upon young Glasgow playwrights Steve Brown and Jenny Fraser, whose play 'MacBurgers - Real Neat Scotch Fare' first hounded and now effectively banned by heavy handed legal actions co-ordinated from the company's head office in Illinois, simply seeks to highlight the appalling working conditions many young people working in the fast food industry endure and is in any case fiction which does not mention McDonalds once; is appalled that through the threat of protracted and expensive legal action McDonalds, a multi-million pound company, has forced the authors to sign an undertaking that they will never again allow their work to be performed anywhere; notes that the total exposure to date of the play is at Stirling District Youth Theatre, RSAMD Junior School, the Village Theatre, East Kilbride, and Phantom Production; and condemns this gross over-reaction on the part of the company which brings their whole enterprise into disrepute.
