Ulster Defence Regiment

EDM number 1178 in 1990-91, proposed by James Kilfedder on 23/07/1991.

That this House, which proudly recognises the dedication and courage of the men and women of that Ulster Defence Regiment, deeply regrets the decision by the Secretary of State for Defence to abolish the name of this distinguished regiment which was established solely to defend the people of Ulster against terrorism; recalls the repeated demands made by Irish Republican organisations and by the Government of the Irish Republic for the abolition of the Ulster Defence Regiment; and urges the Government to retain the name of the Ulster Defence Regiment of which about 200 members have made the supreme sacrifice in defence of Ulster.

This motion has been signed by a total of 3 MPs.
