Conduct Of Secretary Of State For Education And Science And School Buildings
EDM number 1173 in 1990-91, proposed by Peter Hardy on 22/07/1991.
That this House notes that the Secretary of State for Education and Science chose to attend an unheralded meeting in South Yorkshire where he proclaimed that any deficiencies in school buildings were entirely due to local authorities; regrets that the Secretary of State overlooked his own Department's responsibilities and that he quite failed to ascertain that over a long period the Rotherham authority has been refused allocation of anything like a sufficient sum for school buildings; that Rotherham area honourable Members have made frequent representations about these problems; that his own ministerial colleague visited the area to discuss the matter; and considers that it is time there was a Secretary of State for Education with an adequate grasp of his particular obligations.
