Deregulation Of London Bus Services
EDM number 1170 in 1990-91, proposed by Eddie Loyden on 22/07/1991.
That this House deeply regrets that the Government's ideological obsession with deregulation and privatisation has resulted in a deterioration of bus services outside London; is concerned that bus deregulation has generally led to a decrease in passenger mileage, cuts in off peak and weekend services, a sharp increase in fares and a downward pressure on pay and conditions for bus company employees; deplores the complacent attitude of the Government who now, despite overwhelming opposition, propose to inflict similar damage on London's bus services; fears for the future of travelcard and concessionary fares in London; and consequently calls upon the Government to abandon its plans to privatise and deregulate London's buses and to establish an independent public inquiry into the future structure of London's transport.
