European Parliament Resolution On Ici
EDM number 1164 in 1990-91, proposed by Frank Cook on 18/07/1991.
That this House congratulates the European Parliament on passing at the July session a Resolution related to the possible takeover of ICI, which recognises ICI as one of the four largest chemical companies in the Community and the largest manufacturing company in the United Kingdom, having invested one billion ECU in 1990 in research and development, and which required the Commission not to permit any takeover on the basis of one month's summary review but to investigate such a bid fully for the four-month period provided for under the merger control regulations and to evaluate and report on the likely effects of a takeover, 'not just on today's competition, but also upon future technological and economic progress in the Community and the United Kingdom'.
