Infertility Treatment Cuts
EDM number 1162 in 1990-91, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 18/07/1991.
That this House notes with concern the recent series of decisions by district health authorities in England and health boards in Scotland to reduce, and in some cases cancel, the availability of drugs and treatment for the infertile, as a result of funding decisions; points out that as many as one in six couples in the United Kingdom suffer infertility, and that few currently obtain appropriate National Health Service treatment; calls for the provision of adequate and accessible infertility treatment; and urges district health authorities and boards and self-governing hospital trusts not to penalise the childless by further cutting already inadequate infertility services.
