Conduct Of The Home Secretary And The Royal Observer Corps
EDM number 1157 in 1990-91, proposed by Russell Johnston on 17/07/1991.
That this House condemns the manner in which the announcement to disband the Royal Observer Corps was made by the Home Secretary in a Written Answer on 10th July; and, while accepting that the end of the Cold War will inevitably result in a review of civil defence expenditure, believes the decision suddenly to announce, in this way, the disbandment of more than 9,300 uniformed volunteers and 170 Civil Service staff, after the Corps has provided 66 years of dedicated and valuable service, showed an extreme lack of sensitivity.
This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
