Hereditary Peerages

EDM number 1144 in 1990-91, proposed by Alan Williams on 16/07/1991.

That this House urges the Prime Minister not to recommend the creation of any more hereditary peerages; and points out that while there is justification for giving recognition to the achievements of individuals, it is logically inconsistent with a classless society to perpetuate that honour to descendants.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
