Sales Of The Sun (No.2)

EDM number 1128 in 1990-91, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 12/07/1991.

That this House notes with concern the loss of sales of 300,000 copies of the Sun; recognises that this concern may be shared by major advertisers such as Allied, Asda, Autocar, B & Q, Comet, Dixons, Do It All, Lever Bros., Martins, M.F.I., Odour Eaters, Peugeot, Tandy, Texas, Woolworths and others; suggests that one possible cause is editorial misjudgement in not understanding that significant numbers of readers of the Sun and ex-readers of the Sun are displeased by seven year old private photographs appearing in the paper; and believes that the way to save the Sun is not statutory control of governmental licensing of journalism but by consumers passing a message through the advertisers to the Sun that loss of sales to advertisers matters as much as loss of sales of the Sun.
