Exemptions And Benefits For Chronic Conditions
EDM number 1106 in 1990-91, proposed by Roland Boyes on 11/07/1991.
That this House believes that the current position in relation to which of those with chronic conditions obtain exemption from prescription charges and which do not is a total and irrational mess and that the present system of different allowances for disabled people is complex and often anomalous; welcomes the commitment that the next Labour Government will introduce a comprehensive disability benefit and try to arrive at a more rational division between which chronic conditions qualify for exemption and which do not; considers that cystic fibrosis is one of the conditions which should be exempt from charges and qualify for benefit; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to follow the current practice of adopting Labour Party policy by announcing an immediate review aimed at eliminating the anomalies and producing a fair, rational and humane system of support for those suffering from chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
