Bury Metro, The Collapse Of Bcci, And The Hon Members For Bury North And Bury South
EDM number 1098 in 1990-91, proposed by Terry Lewis on 10/07/1991.
That this House is appalled at the conduct of the honourable Members for Bury North and Bury South in seeking to exploit, for political ends, the situation Bury Metro finds itself in consequent upon the collapse of the BCCI; believes that their constituents would more appreciate some effort on their part in seeking from the Department of the Environment and the Bank of England indemnity for the investment losses currently projected; believes this to be the only honourable course when as recently as 27th June, the Bury Metro had received from the Department of the Environment a Bank of England approved list of investment institutions which included BCCI; further regrets the honourable Members have, by their intemperate response to events, impugned the integrity of council officers and elected members alike; and calls upon the said honourable Members to make appropriate apologies now, by joining others, with their best efforts of their constituents, in trying to retrieve a situation which has everything to do with the questionable financial practices currently prevalent in the United Kingdom and nothing whatsoever to do with the efficiency of local government.
