Non-Racial Integration Of South African Sport
EDM number 1090 in 1990-91, proposed by Peter L Pike on 09/07/1991.
That this House applauds moves towards the integration of South African sport on a non-racial basis and thus believes that the acceptance of South African sport into the international arena by the International Olympic Committee, with the support of the African National Congress, is to be welcomed providing that the process of racial integration is not reversed; recognises that a major factor in bringing about such positive developments within South African sport was the application of a comprehensive boycott of sporting links with apartheid; salutes the efforts of all those who supported the sports boycott; and looks forward with satisfaction and anticipation to the return of South African teams, on a non-racial basis and with the support of the non-racial African sports bodies, to international sport.
