Arrears Of Mortgage Payments

That this House notes with concern that one in 12 United Kingdom mortgage loans are in arrears; and calls on the Government to take urgent steps to avert unprecedented levels of homelessness by ensuring that mortgage lenders operate a clear code of practice to protect mortgagees and any tenants they may have against home loss, by ensuring that local authorities adhere to the revised Government Code of Guidance on homelessness and do not use intentionality provisions except in cases of wilful non-payment of mortgage or rent, by ensuring that county courts may only grant possession when satisfied that mortgagees and landlords have utilised all good practice options before taking possession proceedings and by funding more debt counselling services.
