Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Health
EDM number 1050 in 1990-91, proposed by Tony Banks on 01/07/1991.
That this House regards as irresponsible and undemocratic and thus unacceptable, the refusal of the Secretary of State for Health to meet a deputation representing London Labour honourable Members to discuss shortcomings in the London Ambulance Service; notes that one of Her Majesty's Ministers confirmed in debate on 18th April 1991 that 10,000 hospital appointments a month have been cancelled, necessary overtime by emergency ambulance crews has been capped to meet financial targets, there is stacking of 999 calls, there has been a reduction of 50 officer complement and a failure of a ú3 million computer scheme; does not believe that the fragmentation of the Patient Transport Service by opening it to commercial competition from April 1992, and the intention of the London Ambulance Board to apply for Trust status next year or the purchase of equipment of inferior specification to that now in service, will solve these serious problems; and thus calls on the Secretary of State to withdraw his controversial proposals and to now provide sufficient resources to enable the crews of London Ambulance to meet the needs of all Londoners who stand in need of their skilled services.
