Entrance Charges At Kew Gardens
EDM number 1034 in 1990-91, proposed by Harry Cohen on 25/06/1991.
That this House notes that the entrance fees to Kew Gardens for two adults and two children have increased from 50 pence in 1986 to ú8 in 1990, an increase of 1,600 per cent. in four years; notes that the journey to Kew by London Underground would cost that family a further ú8; believes that a minimum cost of ú16 is excessive and deters many Londoners from visiting Kew; notes that such entrance charges make it impossible for those living on state benefits to enjoy the facilities provided by a fine public park; calls for the Department of the Environment, given the rising unemployment in London, to provide free access to Kew Gardens to those on state benefits so that single parents, and those who are made redundant through Government policies, may enjoy public property; and calls for all entrance fees to be reduced.
