Liverpool, The Leader Of The Liberal Democrats And The Militant Tendency
EDM number 1019 in 1990-91, proposed by Robert N Wareing on 24/06/1991.
That this House notes that at the Liverpool City Council Meeting of Wednesday, 19th June 1991, when Councillor Harry Rimmer was leading the Council in tackling Liverpool City's problems, Liberal Democrat councillors could not resist the temptation to play games with the people and the services of Liverpool and voted with the Militant Tendency to overturn the City Council's budget; asks how given that Liverpool City Council still faces a prospective deficit of at least ú6 million, the Leader of the Liberal Democrat Party can justify this irresponsible action by Liverpool Liberal Democrats, and calls upon him to give a guarantee to the Leader of Liverpool City Council that his councillors will vote for a legal, balanced budget at the next meeting of the Council and not indulge in political gestures with the Militant Tendency.
This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
