Dangerous Foam Furniture

EDM number 1008 in 1990-91, proposed by Nigel Griffiths on 20/06/1991.

That this House calls on the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to present Commissioner Bangemann with the United Kingdom's evidence that polyurethane foam causes almost half the deaths in house fires, has brought about a three-fold increase in the proportion of house fires starting in furniture and that the banning of foam by United Kingdom manufacturers has given greater protection to households; and further instructs him to inform Herr Bangemann that he should stop putting the interest of irresponsible manufacturers before the safety of the public.
