ICI AND INVESTMENT IN THE NATION'S FUTURE

That this House notes with approval that in 1990 the expenditure of ICI upon research and technology was a staggering ú679 million of which ú481 million was spent in the United Kingdom; notes that ICI employs nearly 54,000 people in the United Kingdom, many of them in areas of high unemployment; further notes payments for supplies in the United Kingdom last year by ICI totalled ú2.5 billion; welcomes the commitment which ICI has demonstrated to research and development, to its workforce, to its shareholders, to the environment, and to the United Kingdom economy; congratulates ICI shareholders, management and employees alike on their remarkable achievements; expresses its appreciation of the great contribution which ICI makes to local communities, the national economy, to the balance of payments, and the solution of world problems; and wishes not only to salute all that has been achieved in the past by this flagship of British industry, but also to express its appreciation of the investment which ICI has made in the future of the nation.
