Japanese Government's Honouring of War Criminals
EDM number 999 in 1989-90, proposed by Ian Bruce on 15/05/1990.
That this House notes that two Japanese war criminals, Kiyoaki Tanara and Shigeyuki Hashimoto, received a heroes' welcome in Tokyo having surrendered after 45 years in hiding in the jungle; notes that surviving British prisoners of war witnessed the outrageous, evil and sadistic actions by these two men against British servicemen ; unreservedly condemns the action of the Japanese Government in yet again shamelessly denying the barbarous wartime behaviour of Japan's wartime regime; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to urge the Japanese Government to bring to justice those against whom there is adequate evidence of barbarous war crimes as a matter of urgency.
