'Proof of Age' Card Scheme
EDM number 997 in 1989-90, proposed by George Gardiner on 15/05/1990.
That this House congratulates the Portman Group on its initiative in launching the proof of age card scheme to deter illegal under-age drinking, while at the same time helping young people over 18 years to prove that they are legally entitled to purchase alcoholic drinks; believes that the scheme will be a valuable help to licensees and their staff in establishing whether a young person is legally permitted to purchase such drinks or not; notes that the proof of age card is available free of charge; and urges honourable Members to give the scheme all support in their constituencies as a positive contribution to reducing illegal purchase of alcohol by young people under 18 years.
