Albuera Day

EDM number 988 in 1989-90, proposed by Michael Shersby on 15/05/1990.

That this House salutes the memory of the men of the Middlesex Regiment (Duke of Cambridge's Own) (57th and 77th) who gave their lives in the battle of Albuera on 16th May 1811, between the allied British, Portuguese and Spanish forces and the French forces when they earned the name of 'the diehards' and rejoices in the decision of the Lord Chancellor that the Middlesex flag is to be raised and flown again today over the Middlesex Guildhall in Parliament Square to commemorate the battle and also the continued existence of the geographical county; and recognises that this is an act of great significance to the people of the county, who take pride in their roots, in the Middlesex Cricket Club and the Middlesex Commission of Peace and wish to see its identity restored wherever possible without re-opening the local government changes which took place in 1964.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
