Poll Tax Treatment Of Bed And Breakfast Accommodation

EDM number 952 in 1989-90, proposed by Alan Beith on 08/05/1990.

That this House calls on the Government to extend to England and Wales the provision which exempts households in Scotland providing bed and breakfast accommodation from business rates if they accommodate no more than six persons per night; considers that the alternative provision of relief if accommodation is available for fewer than 100 nights per annum will be inadequate because it will lead to a shortening of the tourist season in areas which, with the encouragement of tourist boards, have been seeking to extend their season; and further believes that it is unreasonable to discriminate against charge-payers and tourism in England and Wales in this way.
