Insulting Remarks About Scotland

EDM number 920 in 1989-90, proposed by Alex Salmond on 30/04/1990.

That this House notes that people in Scotland resent the gratuitously offensive remarks attributed to a Downing Street aide by the Sunday Mail on 29th April calling on Scots to be 'emasculated' in order to 'concentrate their minds' as 'the Scots are getting too much'; calls on the Prime Minister to dismiss Mr Bernard Ingham if he is the responsible official; suggests to the Prime Minister that before she, her minions or her Tory backbenchers insult Scotland again they should pause to reflect on the ú87,000 million of revenues from Scottish resources which have bankrolled their shabby policies over the last decade; and wonders if being used as a guinea pig for the poll tax could be considered adequate return for this unwilling contribution of ú17,000 a head for every man, woman and child in Scotland.
