James Seddon Shirt Factory, Denbigh
EDM number 906 in 1989-90, proposed by Martyn Jones on 26/04/1990.
That this House deplores the situation created for the employees of the James Seddon Shirt Factory in Denbigh, Clwyd, who, despite operating as an extremely profitable unit of this firm for over 20 years, are facing redundancy and closure; notes that this situation is due in no small part to the attitude of Marks and Spencer plc, their only customer, who are not placing further orders with the parent company, now in receivership; therefore calls on Marks and Spencer plc urgently to reconsider their position; and further calls upon the Welsh Office to do everything necessary to keep this factory open, including underwriting the accrued employment rights of the staff and so ensuring continued employment for 120 people in an area of desparate job need.
This motion has been signed by a total of 33 MPs.
