Poll Tax In Rotherham And Westminster
EDM number 884 in 1989-90, proposed by Peter Hardy on 23/04/1990.
That this House notes that in the current financial year the City of Westminster will itself spend the sum on ú1,181.54 per head and receive the Government's standard spending grant of ú865.84; considers that this should be compared with the position in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham where spending per head will be ú821.93 with a much lower standard spending grant of ú188.39; notes that this leads to a situation in which the City of Westminster is regarded as a good and prudent authority which merits the congratulations of the Prime Minister whilst Rotherham is condemned and subjected to costly capping; and believes that this comparison illustrates the injustice and incompetence which can now be entirely associated with the record of Her Majesty's Government in general and the Department of the Environment in particular.
