Civil Liberties In Turkey

EDM number 862 in 1989-90, proposed by Tony Benn on 18/04/1990.

That this House calls upon the Turkish Government to release Dr Nihat Sargin and Mr Haydar Kutlu, who were arrested two and a half years ago and have not had their cases heard, to free all other political prisoners, to abandon torture in Turkish jails, to restore all civil liberties, including the right to speak, to write and publish, to strike and to organise political parties and trade unions for the people of Turkey and the Kurdish people.
