Northern Cyprus

EDM number 86 in 1989-90, proposed by Dudley Smith on 28/11/1989.

That this House notes that six years ago the Turkish Cypriots declared their own state in Northern Cyprus; considers that they were right to do so and did not act illegally; considers that the Turkish Army has a right and duty to protect them under the Treaty of Guarantee; further considers that recognition of the Greek Cypriot administration as if it were the government of all Cyprus prevents the two peoples dealing with each other on the basis of equality and mutual respect; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to treat the two peoples as equals in all respects without further delay.

This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs.
