Intercity Magazine
EDM number 766 in 1989-90, proposed by Alan Meale on 20/03/1990.
That this House notes the obvious political bias of the magazine, Intercity, prepared for the British Railways Board by Redwood Publishing Ltd., clearly seen by its continued promotion of a series of sycophantic and inaccurate articles such as Man on the Move, about the Right honourable Member for Hertsmere, printed in its January 1990 issue, or Edwina Strikes Back, a profile of the member for Derbyshire South in its March edition; regrets that neither article contained much fact nor understanding of transport, in particular rail transport; is alarmed that the only advice seemingly being given to rail commuters in the latest issue was the possibility of their purchase of a Samurai sword by mail order for ú495, payable in 10 equal monthly instalments; and finds it extremely odd that, whilst these articles portray a professional concern for the railways to commuters, they failed to relay to the same group of readers why neither the honourable Member for Derbyshire South nor the Right honourable Member for Hertsmere, the Secretary of State for Transport, used such concern to save the thousands of railway workers' jobs which were lost in Derby whilst both were Government Ministers.
