Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Scotland And European Aid To Scotland
EDM number 732 in 1989-90, proposed by Harry Ewing on 14/03/1990.
That this House expresses its deep concern at the conduct of the Secretary of State for Scotland in his comments to the media on the question of EEC aid to the Highlands and Islands and rural areas of Scotland wherein he first of all broke the confidentiality of the negotiations and proceeded to compound that felony by displaying an appalling ignorance of which EEC Commissioner is responsible for the policy in question by attacking Commissioner Millan when in fact if the Secretary of State had been more interested in the economic wellbeing of the Highlands and Islands and the other rural areas of Scotland he should have been aware which Commissioner is actually responsible for the policy; believes that in view of this serious lack of awareness on the part of the Secretary of State he has shown that he is totally unfit to hold that office; and calls on him to resign.
