Flat Rate Tax Allowances And The Poll Tax
EDM number 731 in 1989-90, proposed by Jeff Rooker on 14/03/1990.
That this House remains of the opinion that an increase in the flat rate personal tax allowances makes available a welcome disproportionate benefit to those on average earnings and below and that the value of these allowances should be maintained; therefore calls upon the Chancellor of the Exchequer to increase the allowances according to the statutory indexation provision; and would take a harsh view if, in the year of the introduction of a new flat rate tax which gives a disproportionate disadvantage to those in average earnings and below, the tax allowances were not so increased.
