Arms Embargo On South Africa
EDM number 724 in 1989-90, proposed by Gerry Steinberg on 13/03/1990.
That this House notes that while South Africa talks of peace and negotiations it is engaged in massive re-armament; notes furthermore that it is not self-sufficient in arms production, despite its claims, as more than half of its arms are purchased abroad; and therefore calls for the United Nations arms embargo to be further strengthened, so neutralising the South African military machine, which would greatly contribute to the ending of the apartheid regime, as the entire power structure is now based on the military.
This motion has been signed by a total of 43 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
