Maudsley Hospital

EDM number 713 in 1989-90, proposed by Harriet Harman on 13/03/1990.

That this House notes with great concern the cuts in vital services at the Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell; notes that the cuts have been made necessary due to government underfunding of the nurses' pay award and inflation; and that in order to stay within the 1990-91 budget the special health authority has decided to make cuts which will hit services for mentally ill children and adolescents, mentally handicapped children and research; believes that the Government's claim to support care in the community sound hollow against the background of such cuts; and calls on the Government to make sufficient funds available to the Maudsley Special Health Authority to prevent these cuts of ú630,000 going ahead on 1st April.
