Royal Borough Of Kingston And The Local Government And Housing Act 1989
EDM number 71 in 1989-90, proposed by Simon Hughes on 27/11/1989.
That this House notes that the Conservative administration of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames have used their slim majority to investigate a council sub-committee which goes against the spirit of the local Government and Housing Act 1989 with regard to proportionality of political groups; further notes that by massively over-representing both themselves and the Labour Group the Conservative administration is attempting to deny opportunities for the Liberal Democrat Official Opposition to work for local residents in the run up to next May's Local Government elections; and therefore condemns this abuse of democracy and calls upon the ruling Conservative group to rescind its new policy forthwith.
