Yorkshire Water Charges 1990/91

EDM number 671 in 1989-90, proposed by John Battle on 08/03/1990.

That this House views with grave concern Yorkshire Water Authority's plans to increase the connection charge of a house to water mains from ú37 to ú529 and of a house to sewer mains from ú50 to ú629; notes that housing associations face an increase from ú131 to ú1,155 and that all these costs will feed through into increased rents and mortgages; notes that these increases follow the increase this year in the standing charge for domestic users from ú16 to ú30, following a 33 per cent. rise in the previous year; and believes that Yorkshire Water Authority is outrageously exploiting its monopoly position for the benefit of shareholders rather than consumers and urges Yorkshire Water to reconsider these excessive new charges.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
