Z-Berth At Swansea

EDM number 654 in 1989-90, proposed by Alan Williams on 05/03/1990.

That this House notes that a test exercise in areas adjourning the proposed Z-Berth in Swansea was carried out by people opposed to its establishment; also notes that in these areas which would be within the Special Safety Plan which is to be prepared against the possibility of an incident involving a release of radioactivity, no-one was in at 41 per cent. of the houses called on and not all members of the household were at home in a further 22 per cent.; believes that this raises grave doubts about the efficacy of any emergency plan and wonders how unattended children would be dealt with in terms of the type of warnings that would be given and the offering of medication such as iodine tablets; and asks that the Minister makes public full details of his Department's safety proposals since he intends to impose the Z-Berth on a community whose honourable Members of Parliament and local authorities have opposed its establishment.

This motion has been ammended, see 1295A1.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
