Women's Gynaecological Privacy
EDM number 624 in 1989-90, proposed by Emma Nicholson on 28/02/1990.
That this House deplores the loss of personal privacy on the gynaecological status of women as a result of the new general practitioner contract; believes that to release the data acquired through cervical smears to non-medical people, such as family practitioner committees and their administrative staff, is in gross breach of both the general practitioner contract and general medical ethics; and calls on the Secretary of State to exclude nuns, virgins and other women who do not wish to undergo such intrusive preventive medicine from the general practitioner target list and to replace the family practitioner committee with a medical peer group for target checking purposes.
