Ownership Of The Channel Tunnel
EDM number 593 in 1989-90, proposed by Graham Allen on 21/02/1990.
That this House notes the financial difficulties of the private sector involved in the construction of the Channel Tunnel; and calls for the repeal of section 42 of the Channel Tunnel Act so that in the event of future private sector problems or liquidation the United Kingdom Government can intervene and guarantee a British stake in the project and prevent the tunnel being wholly owned by foreign companies to the detriment of the United Kingdom's long-term economic and social interests.
