Threat To The Welsh National Rugby Stadium

EDM number 561 in 1989-90, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 15/02/1990.

That this House deplores the threat to the National Stadium, Cardiff Arms Park, Cardiff, and its much praised playing surface posed by the Cardiff Bay Barrage proposal; believes that the optimum solution to the problem offered so far to prevent rising groundwater from interfering with the present drainage, namely an underground waterproof wall keyed into the bedrock, eight metres deep and surrounding the entire rugby ground, is not feasible because of its adverse effect on the Park Street Regional Trunk Switching Telephone Exchange and therefore the integrity of the entire telecommunications system of the South Wales region; and therefore requests the Secretary of State for Wales to withdraw funding from the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
