Welsh Water Price Rises
EDM number 543 in 1989-90, proposed by Alun Michael on 14/02/1990.
That this house notes that the price of water to consumers in Wales is to rise by 12.2 per cent; notes that this is more than 60 per cent. higher than the rate of inflation; notes than this excessive increase is directly due to Government policy of providing a profit for the private sector and shifting the burden of investment from richer tax payers to ordinary people in Wales; observes that if such an increase had been requested by ambulancemen the Prime Minister would have hurled abuse from the rooftops for such an inflation-provoking rise; and calls on the Government to introduce some fairness and objectivity into its economic and social policies.
This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
