Local Education Authority Employers and the Further Education Lecturers' Dispute

EDM number 426 in 1989-90, proposed by Paul Murphy on 31/01/1990.

That this House condemns the Government's support of the local education authority employers in attempting to worsen substantially the pay and conditions of teachers in maintained sector colleges by refusing to make an unconditional pay award back-dated to 1st April 1989 which does not cut the wages of teachers in real terms, does not increase the working week and does not continue to disadvantage hourly-paid, part-time teachers; and urges the employers to return to the negotiating table with an offer which will be commensurate with the skill and dedication exhibited by all teaching staff.

This motion has been signed by a total of 23 MPs.
