Labour Behaviour On Warrant Sales And The Poll Tax

EDM number 42 in 1989-90, proposed by Jim Sillars on 22/11/1989.

That this House notes that within 24 hours of Scottish Labour honourable Members marching in an anti-poll tax demonstration in Glasgow carrying a banner demanding no warrant sales, the Scottish Executive of the Labour Party imposed suspensions on councillors Keith Simpson and Anne Aylett because they defied a Lothian Labour Whip instructing them to vote for warrant sales in pursuit of those who have defied the Tory poll tax; enquires of those honourable Members how it was possible for Labour to march one day against warrant sales and then act to employ them the next; and calls upon those honourable Members to explain why they have remained silent while councillors have been persecuted for doing what they marched for.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
