EDM number 396 in 1989-90, proposed by Robert Hughes on 29/01/1990.
That this House welcomes the prompt response to the honourable Member for Aberdeen North by Sir Bob Reid, Chairman of British Rail, in a letter dated 22nd January in which he acknowledges he was disturbed at the contents of the Network SouthEast Magazine and has given instructions that such publicising of South African tourism must not be repeated, and expresses his apologies that such material should have appeared in one of British Rail's publications and for the offence it must have caused; further notes that he has advised the Secretary of State for the Transport of British Rail's policy; calls upon the Secretary of State for Transport to commend Sir Bob Reid for his adherence to government policy; and wishes that the Cabinet would show greater sense of purpose in excluding South African tourism as agreed with Commonwealth heads of government.
